They say the best things come in small packages - and this pretty little beach resort is perfect for families looking for somewhere to rent a villa on the Algarve.
Enjoying a beautiful sheltered location to the Western end of central Algarve, Carvoeiro started life as a small fishing village and is still a successful location for fishermen today, although it now offers so much more.
The town of Carvoeiro is centred around a small square, which is accessed by just two roads, meaning it retains an old world feel (helped by the fact that parking is not allowed on the square). With an abundance of shops and an Intermarche on the outskirts of the town, there are plenty of options for stocking up your villa or apartment. Along with the shops you’ll find a wealth of fantastic eateries in the town centre, sure to appeal to everyone’s tastes. There is a huge selection of bars, restaurants and cafes all within walking distance of each other, some along the beach itself – ideal for watching the sun go down after a day of swimming!
The town square is situated just behind the lovely beach at Carvoeiro which is sheltered by spectacular cliffs on both sides. As well as offering protection, these cliffs also give some stunning views out to sea. Fans of history will enjoy the 17th century fort remains while there is also a lighthouse and lots of caves, with the local fishermen being happy to take tourists out to see them. Or why not explore the lovely sidestreets to escape the sun? Most things are a short walk away in Carvoeiro, which is why it is so popular with families.
Watersports and other activities
If watersports are your thing, the local beach offers jetskis and pedalos and there are also a number of diving schools as the cliffs mean some excellent underwater sights. But if you prefer something even more lively, there are two water parks within easy reach – Slide and Splash at Lagoa and Aqualand at Alcantarilha.
