Where to play tennis in the Algarve

Are you staying in the luxurious area of the Algarve and looking for somewhere to play tennis? Well, you’re in luck. The region is full of well-run clubs and resorts with quality courts, friendly coaches, and easy access to beaches and restaurants when you need a break. Whether you’re after a casual game or some professional coaching lessons, here are some of the best Algarve tennis clubs to check out.

Algarve tennis clubs

The Algarve is one of the best places in Portugal to play tennis. The weather stays mild for most of the year, and almost every coastal town has a local club or resort with good courts and coaching. Most clubs also offer padel and fitness facilities, so it’s easy to mix things up between matches.

Let’s have a look at some of the top-rated tennis clubs across the region, from Faro to Vilamoura, all offering something a little bit different depending on what you’re looking for.

Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy

Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy in Almancil is one of the Algarve’s most established clubs. It has both hard and astro turf courts, plus access to the resort’s swimming pools and gym. You can pay for a weekly membership for around €120 or just book single sessions — whatever works for you. Courts cost around €24 an hour, and racquet hire is €6.

You can also book private lessons and group coaching sessions too. This tennis academy is a great spot to watch some great matches as well, thanks to the many competitions and tournaments that they put on.

  • 6 padel courts (all floodlit)

Why not get a lesson from tennis coach Søren Højbjerg? Private lessons start from €52 for members and €62 for non-members. A yearly adult membership costs €420, but you can also purchase seasonal ones lasting 3 months (minus 65% of your selected annual membership cost) and 6 months (minus 65% of your selected annual membership cost).

This also gives you a huge range of benefits at the club, from free tennis court use to a 15% discount at the pro-shop. If you’re just visiting and want to play as a non-member, then you’re able to rent a court for €24 and a racquet for €6.
