5 Reasons Why The Algarve Is The Perfect Destination For Teenage Friendly Holidays

The Algarve is a region of Portugal filled with hidden delights, from beautiful beaches, small family-owned restaurants and plenty of family-friendly activities to choose from. Going on holiday with younger children can be stressful when it comes to travelling, but in terms of activities, there is plenty to do.

However, when it comes to teenage friendly holidays, this is where things can get a little tricky. Keeping a teenager happy and occupied can be tough, even on the most interesting of holidays, but the Algarve is one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations, so there are plenty of varied activities, attractions and sights which cater to family members of all ages.

Exciting Watersports

When it comes to teenage friendly holidays, you need to make sure that there are activities which will pique their interest. If your teenager is an adrenaline fan, then there are plenty of watersports on offer across the Algarve. Head to Praia da Marinha beach, located in central Algarve, and find soft sand and translucent sea. This beach has been voted one of the top 10 beaches in Europe and is one of the best spots in the region for snorkelling.

The west coast of the Algarve has perfect conditions for surfing and there are numerous schools where beginners can get to grips with the basics. Waterskiing can be done in Quinta do Lago, where the calmer waters are more suited. You’ll also find banana boat rides and jet skiing.

History-Packed Towns

Whilst the Algarve is famous for its holiday destinations, it is also a place which is steeped in history. Lagos is a beautiful town in the Algarve and if you’re looking for a family-friendly day trip, then there is no better place to visit.

With sixteenth-century walls, attractive churches and cobbled streets, if you have a teenager who is really interested in history, then they’ll love a visit here. The Museu Municipal is one of the Algarve’s best museums and has all sorts of unique items to look at, from swords to Roman mosaics.

Great Food

From fresh fish to tasty pastel de natas, the Algarve is home to many wonderful national dishes. One of the hardest parts of finding teenage friendly holidays is making sure that they’re going to be happy with the food that is on offer, but you needn’t worry about that when staying on the Algarve. There’s bound to be a food or dish on offer which everyone in the family will love.

Endless Beaches

Some of Europe’s best beaches can be found on the Algarve and there is certainly no shortage of beaches in the region. Whether you’re looking for a secluded beach for a relaxing family day without interruptions or a beach with activities and watersports, the Algarve has it all. A lot of the beaches on the Algarve come with Blue Flag status, so your mind can be put at ease knowing that the water quality, safety and services are all of the highest quality.

There are plenty of unique beaches which are one of a kind should you want to go exploring, with hidden beach caves, hundreds of wooden steps to climb down and dramatic cliff lines – even the pickiest of teenagers will struggle to be impressed!

Year-Round Sunny Weather

Portugal is one of the sunniest countries in the world, with the Algarve receiving over 300 days of sunshine every year. When it comes to teenager-friendly holidays, bad weather is a recipe for disaster, so you can rest assured that holidays on the Algarve will be filled with sunshine. At the height of summer, temperatures can reach 28º, with around 11 hours of sun a day.
