Formed from sandstone, these wonderful sea caves in Portimão are passable by boat trip only. As you embark on your tour, you’ll find plenty of photography hotspots and stand in awe of the breathtaking views of the ocean from inside as the waves lap into the mouth of the caves. 

The sun streams in through the hollowed sandstone ceiling, glistening against the amazing rock formation of this beautiful spot. It is a sight to behold and travelling by boat from Portimão means you’ll avoid the frenetic struggle to find parking in Benagil. 

 

Autodromo Internacional de Algarve

If motor racing is a passion of yours, then the famous Portimão race track is a utopian destination for you to visit during your Algarve stay. Formally known as the Autodromo Internacional de Algarve, this world-renowned race track has a series of huge sporting events throughout the calendar year. These include The MotoGP Portugal Grand Prix, FIM Superbike World Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship. 

It has a vast grandstand for spectators with excellent views of the meandering track. But, if you aren’t fortunate enough to coincide your visit with one of those popular sporting events, the track hosts a range of driving experiences for visitors to enjoy.

Portimão Museum

Immerse yourself in the history of Portimão with a trip to the town’s museum. The museum is located just a short stroll from the ship port, on the waterfront. Discover the backstory of the town’s fishing roots amidst the quirky setting of a fish canning factory, which is what the museum once was. 

Divided into three sections, embark on a historical journey and learn about the Roman era, Portimão’s boat-building heritage and the early man section, which displays an impressive range of artefacts. A standout highlight is the mini-film that provides a startling insight into the life workers had back then. 

Entry is just €3 and children under 15 can enter for free. 

Slide and Splash Water Park
