Fun Things to do with Kids on the Algarve!

Famous for its long stretches of golden sandy beaches, the Algarve is the perfect playground for the kids building sandcastles and running into the sea. You can’t beat a day at the beach, but there’s also so many other fun activities to do with the kids on the Algarve. From our own personal experience of travelling to The Algarve with children, we’ve put together our favourite places to visit just for you this Summer

Our favourite things to do with kids on the Algarve:

Zoomarine

This is one of our favourite days out.

This amazing attraction has something for everyone and you’ll love spending a fun filled day watching the spectacular shows. You can even swim with the dolphins – a holiday memory that you’ll never forget!

New attractions at Zoomarine include the fun filled waterslides and the fantastic beach as well as the children’s water play area, Treasure Island.

The Wonderful World show is a fun filled event, featuring seals, sea lions, sailors and lost treasure – and lots of laughs from the audience too. We love the fact that the animal shows and exhibitions are all educational, promoting awareness of environmental and conservation issues.

If that’s not enough there’s even fairground rides with stunning views of the park, a huge swimming pool, wave beach and tropical gardens. Our personal favourite was the water jet carousel, prepare to get wet! There’s also plenty of food stalls, drinks stations, ice cream carts and souvenir shops for all the family to enjoy.

You can book your tickets with us or online for Zoo Marine to avoid summer queues and receive a 15% discounted ticket price. This is a fantastic day out for the whole family, you can even buy a two-day family pass, if one day just isn’t enough!z With Zoomarine, you will never run out of things to do with kids on the Algarve again!

FootGolf

For a family activity on firmer ground, why not try out the latest craze Footgolf at The Algarve Tennis and Fitness Club.

Footgolf is located on The Desert Pines Course at the Algarve Fitness and Tennis Club, Vale do Lobo which only opened last year. As the name suggests it’s a combination of football and golf where players must kick a football in to a cup in as few kicks as possible – your feet become the golf clubs. The course is set between trees and bushes, giving a unique mix of a desert and forest course!

Ideal for any age FootGolf is great fun for all the family, you can have a relaxed game with the kids or really show off your skills if you’re feeling more competitive.

This brand new 9-hole course is suitable for all the family, 9 holes for a family of four costs €27 with ball rental of €1.

Indoor Karting, Almancil

If a bit of speed is what you’re after or for a rainy day activity, then you and the family can enjoy a fun filled day out at the Indoor Karting Track based just outside Almancil.

The karting track is open all year round from 10am to 7pm. There are three tracks available –  the adult track – 200cc and 390cc, junior track – 120cc and baby track mini F1. Experience the junior track or pick up speed on the main track for adrenalin filled fun!

There is a height chart to determine which kart and track is most suitable, however if a younger child wishes to go on the big track they can do this, providing they are accompanied by an adult.

There’s also lots of other activities to keep the whole family entertained including a mechanical bull Rodeo, trampolines, mini boats and a large snack bar for drinks and refreshments.

The Campus, Quinta do Lago

If you’re a sporty family, then The Campus in Quinta do Lago is the place for you! This top-class sports hub provides tennis, padel and sports facilities for elite athletes as well as residents and holidaymakers.

Set in a beautiful setting, The Campus provides coaching for all levels as well as focusing on the development of talented young players looking to enhance their skills on court!

This year, The Campus has teamed up with Football Escapes, where children can join a daily football camp as part of their holiday on the Algarve. Led by professional players including Rio Ferdinand, Teddy Sheringham and Bobby Zamora, the camp is a fantastic experience and not to be missed!

If you love a good bike ride, then why not hire bikes for the family and take in the stunning scenery of Quinta do Lago? There’s also a Kids Club with a Drop & Go service and lots of fun sporting activities for kids to do whilst you relax poolside.

Benagil Sea Caves

We just love taking the boat trip to the stunning Benagil sea caves, an experience you’ll never forget!

The sandstone cliffs of the western Algarve are dotted with secret caves and coves reached by rock-hewn steps and tunnels, just waiting to be explored.

Benagil sea cave is a watery pantheon with sunlight streaming in through a hole in its domed ceiling. Visitors can only reach the cave from the sea, either a short swim or kayak from Praia de Benagil itself (kayaks can be hired at the kiosk). The early morning is the most magical time to be there as it is deserted and golden light pours into the cave. Swim on 100 metres to Praia da Corredoura, which has another beautiful sea cave.

Benagil can get busy in high season, and while there are several cafes and restaurants nearby, the Sul Mar restaurant, 1km away up the hill, offers exquisite local food in a setting well away from the main tourist haunts.

These are just some of our favourite things to do with the kids on the Algarve – make sure you tick a couple off your holiday bucket list this Summer!
