Famous across the Algarve, this colourful carnival takes place in February over three days, the third day being Shrove Tuesday. With costumes, music and dancing to rival Brazil’s Rio Carnival, it’s no wonder that people flock from all over the Algarve to watch the procession.
INLAND RURAL CHARM
This charming Portuguese town is situated inland, however if you’re looking for a day to relax, the golden, sandy beaches of Vilamoura and Quarteira are close by. While away the evenings in Loulé relaxing in one of the town’s many informal restaurants. Why not try the locals’ favourite monkfish or for a more rustic cuisine there’s wild boar and venison stew.
